Advocacy Coordinator
Breaking the Silence is an organization of former Israeli soldiers that collects and employs testimonies from soldiers who have served in the occupied Palestinian territories since 2000 in order to stimulate public discourse on the reality in the oPt. We strive to bring an end to the occupation.
The Advocacy Coordinator works closely with the Advocacy Director and Executive Director to implement Breaking the Silence’s international media and political advocacy work. The coordinator produces written materials and arranges departmental initiatives, staying up to date with developments on the ground, and coordinating the full scope of the department's activities. We are looking for an organized and driven early career professional with a strong commitment to human rights.
Essential Functions:
● Manage and maintain contact with key stakeholders including diplomats and international journalists
● Work alongside the Advocacy Director to compose fact sheets and other informational written materials
● Conduct research on issues at the heart of BtS’s work
● Coordinate and track advocacy activities and meetings
● Closely follow developments on the ground in the occupied territories and formulate timely responses
● Draft press releases and media statements
● Send regular newsletters to BtS’s political contacts
● Manage the departmental diary and other administrative tasks
● Implement the organization’s advocacy projects, including :
○ Plan advocacy trips abroad operationally and logistically, working alone or with local partners
○ Organise and produce BtS events and tours in Israel and abroad
○ Operationally manage and organize visiting delegations
Required Skills:
● Impeccable written and verbal communication skills in English
● Ability to read and speak Hebrew
● Ability to perform accurate Hebrew → English → Hebrew translation
● Excellent administrative, computer, and organizing skills
● Ability to edit and proofread English texts
● Self-discipline in time management, task management, and planning
Necessary Qualities and Characteristics:
● Familiarity with the activities of Breaking the Silence and firm commitment to the organization's goals and mission
● Ability to work flexible hours
● Ability to think outside the box, and plan long-term
● The ability to meet tight schedules and work under pressure
● Initiative and ability to work and learn independently
● Ability to work and learn, both as part of a team and independently
● Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, International Relations, Middle Eastern Studies, or a related field (advantage)
● Experience in advocacy or nonprofit settings, preferably in the field of human rights (advantage)
● Past military service in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (advantage)
